Our department is part of the College of Health Technology, which comprises the Department of Health Care Administration, the Department of Leisure Industry and Health Promotion, the Department of Information Management, the Department of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology, and the Department of Long-Term Care.

In 1999, recognizing that demographic shifts in Taiwan would profoundly impact the care industry and trigger an inevitable surge in demand for long-term care professionals, the university established the Graduate Institute of Long-Term Care—the first educational institution in Taiwan dedicated to cultivating advanced professionals in this field. Since its inception, the Institute has consistently developed an integrated, advanced professional curriculum, promoting interdisciplinary learning and diverse expertise to cultivate high-caliber long-term care talent.

In 2014, in response to national trends in long-term care industry development, the pressing demand for care personnel, and the Ministry of Education’s social goal of building learning-oriented educational programs, the department took strategic steps to expand training capacity and address the demand for multifaceted talent. To provide students from non-related disciplines with opportunities to acquire a second specialty and engage in cross-disciplinary study, the Post-Baccalaureate Second-Degree Program in Long-Term Care was approved and began admissions in March (later discontinued in 2016). In the same year, a regular two-year undergraduate program (day division) was established under the Department of Long-Term Care, achieving the integration of the undergraduate department and graduate institute.

In 2019, aligned with the Ministry of Education’s vision of an open university—and to empower individuals to enhance their workplace competencies, acquire practical professional knowledge in a second specialty, expand career transition opportunities, and boost wage potential—the department applied for and established a two-year post-baccalaureate competency-building bachelor's program in long-term care, aiming to cultivate talents with advanced expertise in long-term care.
